Postpone the FISM ACM (August. 2021 update)

We were trying to make it possible to hold the event without rescheduling, even if there was a small chance. We apologize for the delay in reporting this, but we would like to inform you that FISM ASIA has decided to postpone the FISM ACM as follows.

We will inform you of any details that cannot be included in this notice (due to unresolved issues). This is all the information we can provide at this time. The latest information will be posted on the FISM ASIA website.

As a basic premise, it is difficult for Asian countries to easily travel to Busan, South Korea, where the ACM will be held at this time, and this situation will not change in the coming months.

This information will also be posted on Facebook, but in order to ensure uniformity of information throughout Asia, the FISM ASIA website will take precedence. Even if you find this information on any website, please make sure you fully understand the authenticity of any content that is not included in the official information.

Postponement of the date of the ACM

At this time, it has been announced that the ACM will be held in Busan in November 2021, but this date will be postponed. Therefore, the ACM will not be held on this date.

When is the ACM going to be held?

We will make a final decision in October 2021, but for now we are planning to hold the ACM in March 2022. So far, no postponement of the FISM WCM has been announced, so the Asian Championship must be completed by the stipulated deadline. An email will be sent to all club presidents, Contestants and the ACM registrants when a decision is made.

Current Selection Results (to the ACM) for Contestants

Those Contestants who have been approved by FISM ASIA at this time will continue to maintain their rights. However, if they wish to relinquish their rights (by themselves), they must contact the President of their club and then contact FISM ASIA by president.  FISM ASIA or the President of your club will not change your rights as a result of the postponement without your consent.

About Registration

In order to avoid confusion, we are temporarily suspending new applications.

For Contestants

We anticipate that the schedule will be tight from the time the date is confirmed in October until the date of the ACM. Therefore, please prepare the following information as early as possible.

    • Photographs…for the brochure
    • Video…for the backstage staff to check your performance before the contest.
    • Photocopy of your passport…the page with your photo (regardless of expiration date, but it must be the most recent)
    • Cue sheet…We will send you the format of the cue sheet again, but please try to keep it concise.
    • Sound source…Not the sound source itself, but the copyright information and source should be clear.
    • Fire…If you will be using fire, please clarify the details of the item and the chemicals to be used.
    • Items that need to be procured locally and items that need to be taken into consideration… Summarize items that are difficult to bring in from abroad or that need to be taken into consideration on stage, such as water, animals, oil, and items associated with fire.

This information will be sent to those Contestants whose e-mail addresses we have already received, but we also ask that the president of each club (and anyone else who receives this information) notify us so that we can spread this information.

Obituary News: Mr. Song-u AN (A.K.A. Mr. Yuji YASUDA)

We cannot easily accept the fact that we can no longer meet you. We certainly remember your efforts.

Whether the word “bridge” is correct, it may also be called “coordinator”. Your enthusiasm was tremendous. There were times when you weren’t rewarded, but you were consistently striving. We think that it was known not only to the magic world of South Korea and North Korea, but also to the magic world of Asia and the world.

We felt very sad when you told us that you were sick, and at the same time we believed that you would definitely come back. When we received a report that you had successfully completed the surgery and were discharged from the hospital, we even thought, “It’s Mr. Yasuda’s strength!”

But sometimes heaven is cruel. We still needed you in our world. But heaven needed you and took you out of our world. We regret that we have to send you to heaven. However, it may be time for us to send you to heaven and support your success in heaven.

Finally, as FISM ASIA, a leader in the magic world of Asia, we are proud to have been on the Executive Board.
Please rest in peace. Thank you very much.

Asia Magic Event Information – 2020/11/3@Tokyo, JP

Mr. Taiga Suzuki, a contestant at the last ACM 2017 and FISM WCM 2018, gave us this information.

It is a show that provides the audience with a high-quality magic show, in which those who have guest experience at FISM, those who have participated in FISM contests, those who have won awards, and those who have experience as judges will appear. We are honored to introduce FISM to more people.

We will have a magic show on November 3 (national holiday in Japan). Admission is free and this is a spectacular show consisting only of FISM guests, FISM winners and the next FISM Challenger. I will let you know how to apply for tickets as soon as possible, and I hope you will follow my Twitter account (@taiga365ib).

The 300 seats will be greatly restricted and only about 70 people will be admitted. Other infection control measures will also be in place. In spite of the current situation, we have decided to hold this kind of performance on the theme of FISM, which is called the Olympics of the magic world, so that those who love magic and can’t stop loving it can enjoy it.

Mr. Sats Yamamoto, the International Vice President of FISM, gave us his support for the show. We are also planning to have a talk session with Mr. Shuto Ogawa and Mr. Shinpei Katsuragawa about FISM. Thank you very much for your support!

Posting of Event Information on the Site

Our magic industry is currently suffering from a new virus that is limiting the places and environments in which we can perform. Performers in particular have lost their source of income, and contestants have less and less places to practice.

We at FISM ASIA will be posting all notified magic events on this website and will do our best to support them. These will be listed as the “Asia Magic Event Information”, so if you are a member or not, please let us know (by mail form) of any magic event, big or small, and we will post it on this site.

Please note

  • It is at the discretion of FISM ASIA to decide whether or not to publish it. Similarly, due to space and update work, we cannot promise to post all events.
  • Even if an event has ended, it will be posted as a report of that event.
  • Events that are offensive to public order and morals, or that are deemed to be detrimental to FISM ASIA, will not be posted.
  • The inclusion of the event on this site is not an endorsement of FISM or FISM ASIA, nor does it constitute permission to use the logo. We only list events taking place in Asia.
  • If you wish to use the FISM logo, you need to follow the necessary procedures. Also, clubs and organizers are not allowed to use the logo if they are not a member of FISM. Even if you are a member of FISM, you are not allowed to use the logo if the event is not a club event but a personal one or if the event is highly profitable for the members.

Obituary News: Ms. Loke Lan KENG

A mother figure to the Singapore magic community, she has departed to heaven. There is no denying that her passing is a great loss to our FISM member club, GWR (The Great Wong Ring). However, we hope that GWR’s juniors will follow in her footsteps, wish her all the best.

It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing away of the wife of our late “The Great Wong” – our Ring 115 is named after him: “The Great Wong Ring”. She passed away peacefully this afternoon while listening to Christian worship songs at home. She has lived to a ripe old age of 98.

Obituary News: Mr. Santa Jim CHAN

JIM, a key member of MAHK, one of the FISM member clubs in Asia, passed away on August 13. We are pleased to report here that the funeral service was completed today (see the letter from Kenneth Chan, MAHK President, below for details).

For many years, he was an invaluable part of the Hong Kong and Asian magic community. Especially for the performers and staff at the shows who felt comfortable just having him backstage. I’ll miss him very much and don’t want to imagine that we won’t be able to see his face anymore as I can only remember his smile, but I want to pray for his soul and praise him for all he has done. I hope he will entertain many people in heaven.

THE DEATH OF MR. SANTA JIM CHAN

Magicians’ Association of Hong Kong (“MAHK”) announces with great sadness that Mr. Jim Chan (a.k.a. Santa Jim), the Programme Secretary of MAHK Executive Committee, passed away in Hong Kong on 13 August, 2020.

Apart from being a professional actor, magician, balloonist, Santa Jim was also a renowned mascot actor and creator, and the only “mascot magician” in Hong Kong. In 2009, Santa Jim won the “2009 Olympic Santa Claus” title in the annual “Santa Claus Winter Games” in Sweden. In 2013, he founded the Santa School Hong Kong.

In the world of magic, Santa Jim was an Inner Circle Member of MAHK, and an active member of International Brotherhood of Magicians (Order of Merlin). He took active part in all MAHK theatre productions, both on stage and at backstage. He became the team leader of MAHK Voluntary Service Team in 1997, and managed our voluntary performances. In 2002, Santa Jim was elected to be a member of the MAHK Executive Committee, and had served as the Committee’s Programme Secretary until his sad departure yesterday.

Santa Jim made invaluable contributions and provided tremendous leadership and guidance to the establishment and development of MAHK. The MAHK Executive Committee expresses its deepest sorrow for his departure and conveys its deepest condolences to Santa Jim’s family.

Beware of Fake Organizations

We have received a number of inquiries from various quarters and we would like to explain this matter. If you come across any such statements, please be aware that they are false and should not be relied upon in any way.

There are no FISM-related organizations that have a specific country name after the word “FISM” as a notational device. It is only the Continental name (Asia, Europe, North America, etc.), not the country name.
Since Japan belongs to ASIA, the only FISM club in Japan is the one that belongs to FISM ASIA. Of course, there is never a president of FISM for every country in which it exists. In other words, there can be no such thing as “FISM Japan President” or “President of FISM Japan“.

Even if there is only one FISM club in a particular country, we do not give permission to mention the name of the country at all.

We regret that there have been instances in the past where misleading information has been misrepresented. We have tried to explain to you to avoid any misunderstandings in this case in the future. Thank you for your understanding.

At the same time, we have explained the usage of FISM ASIA and FISM ACM in the past (there is no such event called “FISM ASIA”). We hope you will find them useful as well.

FISM ACM2020 schedule change

Announced : 2020/06/21

FISM ASIA and ACM organizers decided that it would be difficult to hold FISM ACM 2020 (original date: November 26-29, 2020) due to the worldwide spread of new virus (SARS-CoV-2) and its infectious diseases (COVID-19).The venue has not yet been decided. We will announce it once it is confirmed.

The new dates
Nov. 4 to Nov. 7, 2021

  • Once FISM ASIA has approved the contestants submitted by each club, these contestants will go on to compete in the ACM even though the dates of the event have been moved forward.
  • If you have already registered and paid for the event, your registration is still valid.
  • Some parts of the website may contain the date before the change. The only information that can be announced at this time is the information here. It supports sequential correction.

AEB Slots applied Contest (Hong Kong / Oct. 2019)

Gold Wizard Championships, which are scheduled to take place in Hong Kong from 11 to 13 October, 2019, will be the first international magic contest event to carry out the AEB Slots Scheme. The contest will form part of the Asia Magic Expo 2019.

If any of your members wishes to enter Gold Wizard Championships, please contact Kenneth Chan of Magicians’ Association of Hong Kong at kenneth.chan@otlgroup.com.cn . Alternatively you might also visit the website of Asia Magic Expo 2019  ( www.asiamagicexpo2019.hk ).

According to the basic principle of FISM rules, a magician in Asia who wishes to participate in the FISM World Championships of Magic (“WCM”) must firstly participate in FISM Asian Championships of Magic (“ACM”) under the recommendation of a FISM member society in Asia. However, there are special situations where magicians might be unable to enter and/or attend an ACM. One such example is when a magician does not belong to any FISM member society, and therefore cannot enter ACM.

FISM ASIA Executive Board (“AEB”) established a new type of contest slots (“AEB Slots”) for ACM. A contest slot is the qualification to enter ACM. The introduction of AEB Slots Scheme has received support from FISM. The function of the scheme is to find talented magicians and assist them to elevate their talents from Asia to FISM WCM.

Only an AEB approved magic contest will be authorized to carry out the AEB Slots Scheme. Such contest does not have to be organized by a FISM member society, but it must take place within Asia. Magicians of any nationalities would be eligible to enter the contest. Magicians from any magic society would be eligible to enter the contest. The proceedings of the contest must be supervised by AEB. After being satisfied that the contest’s standard is in line with FISM WCM level, AEB would grant the approved number of AEB Slots to the winning contestant(s), according to the FISM Asia Rules.

This scheme provides the selected magicians the right to be qualified for ACM (not a right to enter WCM).
